Marissa Wood is entering her second offical year as a volleyball coach, but has been around the game for quite awhile. Marissa will serve as the 15's assistant coach this season under Head Coach Morgan Bosch. Marissa began playing volleyball in Corpus Christi, Texas where she was trained as an outside hitter. In the summer of 2004 Marissa and her family moved to Chesapeake where she joined the Great Bridge High School program under Head Coach Chris Lessick. From day one Coach Lessick decided that Marissa had a future as a setter and Marissa eventually helped lead Great Bridge high School to two consecutive Southeastern District titles. In her senior year at Great Bridge High School Marissa decided to tryout for Coastal and was selected as one of two setters for the 2007 season. Marissa helped her team to several championships that season including the Monument City Classic, Revolutionary Rumble, Omaha Invitational, Old Dominion Regional Championships, and South Atlantic Championships, as well as the Old Dominion Regional Qualifier, which allowed her team to compete in the USAV Junior National Championships in Minneapolis. Marissa was also a major contributor in this team's win over the number one ranked team in the nation, Club Long Beach 18 National, at the Lone star Classic National Qualifier, where she served several consecutive points during a stretch in the second and third games which allowed the team to secure a comfortable lead. Marissa continued her playing career at Virginia Wesleyan College under Head Coach Andrea Hoover where she was voted a Captian in the spring season of her freshmen year and has now finished her second season as the leader in service aces and assists in the conference. She was the only setter in the ODAC to be named to an all conference team (2nd Team All Conference). Next season the Lady Marlins will lcontinue ook to Marissa to lead the team's offense as the returning setter. |
