Girls 18 National Head Coach
Dave Albaugh

Dave Albaugh enters his fifth year as the head coach of the Coastal Virginia 18's team and his second as the Juniors Director.

Coach Albaugh's career in volleyball started in high school where he was a member of the very successful Derry Area Volleyball Program out of the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area. After four years of high school experience Albaugh continued his play at Shippensburg University where he was a starting setter for all four years. During his time at Shippensburg University Albaugh was selected as captain as well as team MVP his junior and senior years. Albaugh left Shippensburg University in December of 1994 with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education Social Studies.

Albaugh's coaching career began in 1996 as he took over the Varsity Girls Program at Currituck County High School in Currituck, NC. Even though Albaugh was only there for one season he made a name for himself by leading the team to their best record in school history and a fifth place finish in the state. The record for most victories in the school's history still holds today. For his accomplishments Albaugh was selected Northeastern District Co-Coach of the Year.

In 1997 Albaugh began a two-year stint at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, leading them to the highest win percentage in school history to that point. In August of 1999 Albaugh took a new position at Great Bridge High School, in Chesapeake, which included a head coaching position for the Varsity Girls Program. In his first season, Albaugh led the team to a district title and a fifth place finish in the State of Virginia, again setting a school record for victories in a single season, which still stands today.

At the start of the 2002 season Albaugh was moved to the Head Coach of the boys team at Great Bridge where he led the team to district and regional titles finishing the season with a record of 21-1 with the only loss coming in the state final earning the team runner-up status in Virginia. The 2002 team was also honored with the Wachovia Sportsmanship Award for the state of Virginia. In the first three years of coaching the boys team at Great Bridge, Albaugh's squad has recorded three Southeastern District Championships (2002, 2004, 2005), three SED Tournament Championships (2002, 2004, 2005), One Eastern Regional Championship (2002), and has compiled an overall record of 81-10. Albaugh has been awarded with Coach of the Year honors in for his accomplishments in 2002, 2004, and 2005 boys seasons.

Since 1998 Albaugh has also been very active in the USA Junior Olympic Program. Starting in 1998 at TVA in Virginia Beach Albaugh turned around a weakening program and made them into a national name, winning three regional championships, one east coast championship, two Shamrock Festival Championships, two Virginia Beach Invitational Championships, and the 2001 Northeast National Qualifier Championship.

In 2004 Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club welcomed Dave Albaugh into his current coaching position where he continues to bring success. During the 2005 season Albaugh's squad won the Monument City Classic as well as the Williamsburg Rumble. Albaugh also directed the 05' squad to a top 5 finish in the Gold Bracket of the Northeast Qualifier. Albaugh's 2006 team again posted some solid finishes earning a runner-up finish at the East Coast Championships, placing in the top 10 of the NEQ, winning the Silver Bracket at the BSQ, and winning the Silver Medal Bracket at the USA Invitational. The 2007 season showed Coastal's and Coach Albaugh's continued improvement and best season yet. The girls won the Monument City Classic, Omaha Classic, Revolutionary Rumble, and South Atlantic Championships. They also won the ODR Qualifier, finished 5th at the Northeast Qualifier, and placed in the Open division of the Lonestar Qualifier (going 3-0 on the first day, knocking off then undefeated Long Beach Mizuno).

Throughout his Junior Olympic coaching career Dave has been very instrumental in the promotion of local athletes to college programs, which he views as the most fulfilling accomplishment in juniors volleyball. In the last six years, Albaugh has been directly involved in the recruiting process with over 50 players from the Hampton Roads area. In the last three years alone CVVC sent over 30 of its seniors to a college program.

Dave Albaugh currently lives and teaches in Chesapeake as a European History teacher.
