Coastal welcomes Coach Chris Lessick to his first year on staff with the club. Coach Lessick will be a "Staff Coach": he will be directly involved with the planning of practices and development of talent for the collegiate and international styled games. Chris will also provide consultation to the coaches regarding practice planning, development of players, teaching techniques, and tournament play. He will travel with the club to some of the major tournaments as well both as a Club Rep and as an Assistant Coach as needed. Lessick's coaching career began in 1998 as he was an Assistant Coach at Chambersburg Area Senior High School. While there, Chambersburg won their conference, finished third in the region, and fifth in AAA state competition. He then moved south in 2000 to become the Head Varsity Coach at Currituck High Schol where he coached the girls to a 14-7 season, finishing 4th in the conference.
Chris's current success began in 2001 when he joined the staff at Great Bridge High School. As the JV Girls Head Coach, Great Bridge finished 13-1. Chris became the Head Varsity Coach in 2002 leading the girls to a 2nd place finish in the district. Over the last 5 years with Chris at the helm, the Great Bridge Varsity Girls team has compiled 82 wins and 27 losses - and the last 4 Southeastern District Championships (or co-championships) in a row! Lessick began a healthy JO coaching career in 1999 which has resulted in his creation of SHOREBREAK JUNIORS, Chris's own Juniors club in 2006. With Chris as the SOLE coach and teacher for the program, Shorebreak Juniors accomplished 84 wins with only 18 losses - a record FAR better than any previous while Lessick worked under the direction of other clubs instruction.Chris continues to spend his summers further learning and teaching the game of volleyball. He has been an annual clinician at the Great Bridge summer camps, Camden High School summer camps, the US Naval Academy, and at the University of North Carolina. He is also ASEP, First Responder, and three times IMPACT certified. Chris has coached 12 players to VHSL All District, Region and All Tidewater selections, including 4 Players of the Year and 4 VHSL All State Selections. Chris Lessick currently lives in Virginia Beach and teaches at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake. |
